The Most Expensive IPL Players

At Spin Sports, we’ve made it our mandate to bring you the very best in online cricket betting action. But, let’s face it, there wouldn’t even be any IPL cricket fun were there not some talented players bringing the game to life. And in the world of sports, money truly talks – and nothing says ‘sports star’ like a hefty paycheck.

In this blog post, we’re taking a look at what some of the best IPL teams have paid to make sure to bag the biggest cricket stars around the world.

Chris Morris – Rajasthan Royals

The Royals left all spending budgets at the door when purchasing South African all-rounder Chris Morris, forking out a whopping ₹16.25 crore – amounting to about $2.2 million. This price tag managed to cause a buzz amongst sports fans around the world, with many questioning whether such hefty bucks should be spent on athletes.

Morris’s cricket career, however, cannot be questioned. The talented right-arm bowler has some impressive stats in the IPL, and no doubt has a lot to offer the Rajasthan Royals. After playing for Bangalore in the 2020 tournament and only seeing 9 matches, there’s no doubt that the Royals will be hoping that their investment on this superstar pays off – especially considering that it has become the most expensive buy in IPL history.

Kyle Jamieson – Royal Challengers Bangalore

This 26-year-old New Zealand cricketer only made his international debut for the New Zealand cricket team in 2020, playing against India. After a seamless start to his international career, Jamieson was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL action. With a price tag of ₹15 crore ($2.06m) resulting in the second most expensive buy of 2021, this young superstar will be hoping to bring some youthful fire to all of his IPL matches.

Glenn Maxwell – Royal Challengers Bangalore

A bidding war against Chennai Super Kings ended with Royal Challengers Bangalore bagging Australian cricketer, Glenn Maxwell. The Royals were certainly not afraid to pay some big bucks for players in the 2021 auction, after once again paying a whopping ₹14.25 crore ($1.96m) for Maxwell.

This talented cricketer has been active since 2010, with his IPL T20 debut taking place in 2012. In 2011, Maxwell set the record for the fastest ever half-century in Australian domestic one day cricket, after having scored 50 runs off 19 balls.

In the 2020 IPL auction, Maxwell was in the middle of a bidding war between Delhi and Kings XI, with Kings reigning supreme and resulting in the second most expensive buy in the 2020 auction. This time around, the talented cricketer ended as the third most expensive buy of the 2021 auction.

The Most Expensive IPL Players 2021

Jhye Richardson – Punjab Kings

Another youngster, Jhye Richardson made his first debut in domestic cricket in 2015, with his international debut taking place two years later, in 2017. The 24-year-old was probably one of the most talented bowling assets on offer at the 2021 auction, with Punjab Kings bagging the superstar for no small price tag, set at a whopping ₹14 crore ($1.9m).

Krishnappa Gowtham – Chennai Super Kings

The 2021 auction certainly came complete with plenty of bidding action, with a trio bidding war ending with a bang and seeing the Chennai Super Kings come out victorious, spending 9.25 crore ($1.27m) for Indian superstar, Gowtham.

The 32-year old all-rounder has had an impressive cricket career so far, starting when he was chosen for the under-15 Zonal Tournament in Bangalor. Emerging as the second highest wicket taker in this tournament, Gowtham set the tone for the rest of his cricket career, having played for big teams including Karnataka, Rajasrhan Royals, and now of course for the Chennai Super Kings in the 2021 IPL.
